Your Library Card

Who can get a library card, how to apply, and how to use your library card.

Anybody is eligible to receive a library card.  Creating an account is very simple and can be done in the library or over the phone (319-228-8744).  When signing up you will receive a library identification number.  If you forget this number it is not a problem, we can also look you up by last name if you happen to forget it.

Information we will need when creating a library account:
1.  First and Last Name
2.  Phone Number
3.  Address

When using your library account, you may check out books, movies, puzzles, and magazines.  You will also be able to reserve items if they are already checked out.  When items are delinquent they start accumulating fines, but it is very simple to renew items so that doesn't happen.  If you need to renew a checked out item, you can do so in the library or over the phone.  Fines can be taken care of in the library with cash or a check.

When checking out movies, the limit is 3, but only 1 can be a new release.  When checking out books and magazines there is no limit on how many you can check out at a time.  If an item is lost, you are responsible for the amount the item is worth.

To quickly see if we have a specific item, you may ask the librarian to look it up.  We will be able to tell you if it's in stock or checked out and when it's due back.  If it's checked out you can then reserve it if desired.  If we do not have an item you are looking for in our inventory, please ask the librarian and we will attempt to obtain a copy if possible.
